This lesson goes along with the message from May 17, 2020 Sunday worship. Pick some activities and enjoy this time with your kids!

Our intent with lessons is not to overwhelm you, but rather to share some intentional activities that encourage all of us on our spiritual journey. If you need anything, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us at kidventure@connectwithcalvary.org. We’re cheering for you!

Lesson: Always With You

Week of: May 17

Scripture: Psalm 121; John 14:15-21

BIBLE ACTIVITY:

Read Psalm 121; John 14:15-21

DISCUSSION:

In the message today we heard Jesus say that God gives us another special friend called The Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit will guide you, defend you, protect you, and remind you that Jesus lived and taught “God is love.”

Questions:

  • Have you ever been afraid? Sad? Lonely?

  • Have you ever felt like someone is with you even when you’re scared or lonely?

  • Do you ever forget to make good choices? Do you wish you had someone to remind you?

  • How can you know The Holy Spirit is guiding you?

WORSHIP:

Watch for Jesus! He is always with you! Celebrate with these or any of the other songs!

Song: Jesus is My Best Friend

Song: Jesus By My Side

For additional songs, see the KidVenture Online Format Week 3 lesson

Remember Verse:

Isaiah 40:31

but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

  • Explain: By trusting in God, we allow Him to be our strength. He will help us and give us strength and perseverance (ability to keep going!) in whatever situation we are in. It doesn’t mean we will never be tired physically, but when we get tired, we rest and we constantly talk to God and know that He is with us and we can trust Him to guide us.

  • Work together to create actions to help remember the verse. Share a video on Facebook or email them to KidVenture.

  • Perform the Remember Verse in different voices or while jumping, running in place, dancing, etc. Your younger kids in Preschool 4, Kindergarten and 1st grade are used to doing this each Sunday and Wednesday. Ask your kids how they want to say the verse. They have some fantastic ideas!

ACTIVITY: Friendship Bracelet

SUPPLIES--Below are multiple options--use what you have!

RELATE

Today we’re going to make a friendship bracelet! You may have made one before and given it to a friend. But, today, you’re going to keep your bracelet and wear it. Why would you wear your own friendship bracelet? Because it’s a reminder that you always have a friend with you! Jesus and The Holy Spirit are always with you! When you look at your bracelet it can remind you that you are not alone!

ACTIVITY: Flat Jesus’ Journey Continues

SUPPLIES:

  • Printed copy of Flat Jesus PDF (if you can’t print at home, draw your own picture of Jesus) (Isaac, please link Flat Jesus Document to this item)

  • Crayons, markers, colored pencils (or other items to color with)

  • If you’ve already made a Flat Jesus, just use that one!

RELATE:

Jesus said that if you love Him, He will send his helper, the Holy Spirit to help you. The Holy Spirit will guide you, protect you, and remind you that Jesus loves you. This week, take Flat Jesus with you wherever you go as a reminder that the Holy Spirit that Jesus sent is ALWAYS with you! Include Him in your activities throughout your day, and be sure to save a spot for him at the table!

RESPOND:

  • What are ways you can let Jesus know you love Him?

  • When was the last time you let Jesus know you love Him?

  • Who is the Holy Spirit?

  • What is it like to take Flat Jesus with you everywhere?

  • How does it feel to know the Holy Spirit is really with us?

  • Share your Flat Jesus pictures with us! Jesus playing outside with you, Jesus at the dinner table with you, Jesus with you and your pet, etc:

PRAYER TIME: Sharing of Joys and Concerns & Praying Together

Gather the children and say:  Let’s pray together. Share praises and prayers. Using the phrase, “How can I pray for you?” is open-ended and encourages responses.

Go around the group and share joys and concerns. Encourage each person to share. Then, close by praying together. Allow all who want to pray out loud a chance to share.  You could have one start then move to another, another, and so on. You are encouraged to take a turn also.

BLESSING:

Ask your children to hold out their hands to receive this blessing you speak over them. A blessing implies a future hope, so speak these words with hope for your children!

Name(s), Jesus loves you and is always with you! You are special and Jesus wants to be your best friend. Spend time talking to Him and remember that you are never alone. Amen.
