Happy Easter! Christ is risen! Alleluia! We are so excited to hear the Easter story this week. It’s the best part of The Big God Story! We have designed intentional experiences for all of our KidVenture kids and families for this very special day. Below we have shared an experience to go along with the Easter message from morning worship. Pick some activities and enjoy this time with your kids!

Lesson: Easter: Jesus Is Alive

Week of: April 12

Scripture: Matthew 27:24-31, Matthew 28:1-6

ACTIVITY: Resurrection Rolls

Today in The Big God Story, children will hear that the tomb was empty and Jesus is alive!  Make Resurrection Rolls with your kid(s) for a fun and memorable way to share this part of The Big God Story. If you don’t have all of the ingredients in the recipe linked below, we encourage you to find another one online. There are many different versions ranging from making the rolls from scratch or even using a marshmallow peep inside. We like this version because it talks through the entire representation of what the ingredients and rolls signify.

RECIPE

Crossroads Kid’s Club video: God’s Story: Easter

Bible Activity:

Read Mathew 27:24–31; 28:1–6

RESPONSE:

God has a big story, and He has invited us to be part of it! Because of Jesus, we get to be with God forever and ever! Take a moment to talk with God. Ask Him if there’s a person in your life who doesn’t know His big story or could use you to remind them of His love. As God brings someone to mind, pray for that person. Ask God to help you show that person how much He loves them.

After a time of quiet response, celebrate Jesus! Use streamers, colorful paper, or other material as you dance, sing, or wave the streamer about. However you choose to respond to God in worship is between you and Him.

God has a big story and He has invited us to be part of it.

Worship:

Jesus is alive! Alleluia! Here are some songs to celebrate our Risen King!

Song: Happy Day

Song: Everybody Everywhere

Song: You Gave

Song: John 3:16 (You’ll Have Eternal Life)

DISCUSSION:

God loves us so much that He sent Jesus to die for us. But, that isn’t the end of the story! Jesus rose from the grave! He beat death! And, God made it all happen to show us that He loves us so much and wants us to be able to be with Him forever and be part of His Big God Story!

  • Why do we call Jesus the Promised Savior?

  • What would it be like to see the empty tomb?

  • How does it make me feel to know Jesus is alive?

  • How do I know Jesus died for me?

  • How do I feel about God right now?

Remember Verse:

John 3:16

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

  • Memorization Options: Younger kids focus on the first sentence. Older kids are encouraged to memorize the whole verse.

  • Work together to create actions to help remember the verse. Share a video on Facebook or email them to KidVenture.

  • Perform the Remember Verse in different voices or while jumping, running in place, dancing, etc. Your younger kids in Preschool 4, Kindergarten and 1st grade are used to doing this each Sunday and Wednesday. Ask your kids how they want to say the verse. They have some fantastic ideas!

Activity: Exercise Eggs

Today in The Big God Story, children heard that Jesus is alive. This activity helps children engage in activity that encourages them to move and be healthy so they can share that Jesus is Alive!

SUPPLIES

  • Easter eggs

  • Slips of paper with exercises/activities written on them (examples: 10 pushups, 10 jumping jacks, run around the outside of the house 2 times, hop on one foot 10 times, hold a 30 second plank, walk around the table like a duck, skip down the driveway and run back up, walk backwards 10 steps, do 10 burpees)

SET UP

Put papers in eggs.

If you wish, hide the eggs and have kids find them.

RELATE

Say: Easter is a very special day! Let’s play a fun game of finding eggs and exercising our bodies to help keep them healthy so we can continue to tell The Big God Story. Let’s celebrate Jesus!

Do: Have children take turns opening and/or finding eggs. Then everyone gets to do whatever is listed on the slip inside the egg.

ACTIVITY: Alleluia Poster: Worship Jesus through Art

Click the link below to view and download the Alleluia poster PDF. Print the file (5 pages) and follow the instructions on putting the poster together. Color the poster and display it for people walking by to see. If you don’t have a way to print the poster, you can draw something on your driveway or window. (Acrylic paint and dry erase markers are easily later removed from windows.) Get creative and be sure to share pictures of your finished project with us!

Prayer Time: Sharing of Joys and Concerns & Praying Together

Gather the children and say: Let’s pray together. Share praises and prayers. Using the phrase, “How can I pray for you?” is open-ended and encourages responses.

Go around the group and share joys and concerns. Encourage each person to share. Then, close by praying together. Allow all who want to pray out loud a chance to share. You could have one start then move to another, another, and so on. You are encouraged to take a turn also.

Blessing:

Ask your children to hold out their hands to receive this blessing you speak over them. A blessing implies a future hope, so speak these words with hope for your children!

Today we heard a special telling of The Big God Story. We heard how Jesus rose from the grave! He is alive! Because of Jesus, we get to be with God forever and ever. He wants us to be a part of The Big God Story.
