Jesus Lives Forever (The Ascension)
Week of: May 24, 2020
Scripture: Luke 24:44-53
ACTIVITY: Dancing Raisins
SUPPLIES
Clear soda (Sprite, 7Up, soda water, etc)
Raisins
RELATE
Fill a clear glass about ¾ full with the clear soda. Drop 5-10 raisins into the liquid. Watch the fun progress! Raisins will dance. Some will stay at the bottom and others will float, and then they will switch. What do you think is happening to cause the raisins to “dance?”

KidVenture video: Going Home (Jesus Storybook Bible)
BIBLE ACTIVITY:
Read Luke 24:44-53
Look up in different bibles to see if the verses read differently
Apps for Bible Reading:

DISCUSSION:
Jesus talked to His apostles before He went up to heaven to be with His Father again. He told them He would prepare a place for them, but they had a job to do before they could get there. He told them to go everywhere and tell everyone the happy news and that He would always be with them.
Questions:
Before He left, what did Jesus tell the disciples to do? (Matthew 28:18–20)
What is a disciple?
I wonder how the disciples felt when they saw Jesus go up to heaven?
Why did Jesus tell the disciples to go and make disciples?
Why is making disciples important?
Why does Jesus say He is “the Way and the Truth and the Life?”
What are some ways you tell people about Jesus and His love even when you aren’t with those people?
WORSHIP:
Watch for Jesus! He is always with you! Celebrate with these or any of the other songs!
Song: One Way
Song: I Am the Way
For additional songs, see the KidVenture Online Format Week 3 lesson
REMEMBER VERSE:
John 14:6
Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
Explain: By trusting in God, we allow Him to be our strength. He will help us and give us strength and perseverance (ability to keep going!) in whatever situation we are in. It doesn’t mean we will never be tired physically, but when we get tired, we rest and we constantly talk to God and know that He is with us and we can trust Him to guide us.
Work together to create actions to help remember the verse. Share a video on Facebook or email them to KidVenture.
Perform the Remember Verse in different voices or while jumping, running in place, dancing, etc. Your younger kids in Preschool 4, Kindergarten and 1st grade are used to doing this each Sunday and Wednesday. Ask your kids how they want to say the verse. They have some fantastic ideas!
ACTIVITY: The Way
SUPPLIES
String--either as one long maze or cut into long pieces
Objects to put string through, tie around, etc around the house (chair, table, toys, etc)
SET UP
This game is a life-size version of a follow-the-line maze. (the type of maze where a bunch of lines are jumbled up on the page and you have to follow the correct line to the end.) To set up this life-size version, arrange several lengths of string around the room--or use the string as one long maze. Kids can help with this!! Loop them through chairs, under tables, and tape them to the walls with painters tape. You can even have the strings cross over one another. Some strings can even loop back and connect to themselves. To play, have students (either in teams or individually) choose one string and follow it to its end. Have the student(s) who find the Bible or cross win a small prize, if you choose.
RELATE
To play, people follow the strings to the end of the maze. Jesus is the Way! Is following Jesus easier than following the string? Sometimes, but sometimes not. Sometimes we lose our way. Sometimes we have obstacles to get over. Sometimes it’s really fun but sometimes it can be frustrating. But Jesus is always with us and is always the right way. We know that even when we don’t know where to go, we can focus on Jesus and always go back to Him and find the Way!

ACTIVITY: Looking Up
SUPPLIES
Sky
Ground
RELATE
Go outside. Lay down on the ground and look up at the sky and clouds. Imagine being with Jesus when He ascended into heaven. What might your reaction have been? What do you think the disciples said to each other? Think about heaven and the place Jesus is preparing for us. What do you think heaven is like? Someday we’ll get to find out if we love Jesus with our whole heart. Keep working on your big job here on Earth of telling people about Jesus and His love.
Extra: Draw a picture on your driveway of what you think heaven might look like.
PRAYER TIME: Sharing of Joys and Concerns & Praying Together
Gather the children and say: Let’s pray together. Share praises and prayers. Using the phrase, “How can I pray for you?” is open-ended and encourages responses.
Go around the group and share joys and concerns. Encourage each person to share. Then, close by praying together. Allow all who want to pray out loud a chance to share. You could have one start then move to another, another, and so on. You are encouraged to take a turn also.
BLESSING:
Ask your children to hold out their hands to receive this blessing you speak over them. A blessing implies a future hope, so speak these words with hope for your children!
Name(s), Jesus loves you! Trust Him and talk to Him! He is your rescuer and is always with you. Be joyful about His love and tell everyone about He loves them! Amen.
